What Is Prohibited: Common Violations
Nursing homes may not use physical restraints without medical justification and judicial authorization; they may not withhold food, water, or medication as punishment; they may not prevent residents from contacting family members or a lawyer; and they may not transfer a resident to a different room or facility without consent. Financial exploitation of residents is also strictly prohibited.
